In an effort to present another option against going to PHP (can you tell I'm not really sold on this potential switch?) I decided to take a close look at what looks like the leading open-source CFML server out there, Railo v3.1.

Good post. I've set up an account on Viviotech two days ago. It was a choice between Railo and Open BD. I picked up Railo and now see some difference with Adobe CF. It doesn't support ValidateAt, preservedata, richtext(in cftextarea).
What's your opinion on Open BD? Is closer to Adobe CF?

It was entirely a personal preference issue. I would gladly recommend people giving the open source options a try if they can before going straight to Adobe CF, if asked.
